EastEnders: Sam Mitchell leaves Walford – after abandoning her son Richard

Danniella Westbrook exited the BBC1 soap again tonight

Sam Mitchell has once again quit Albert Square – but this time she’s left without her son, Richard.

Actress Danniella Westbrook has been making a brief return to EastEnders in order for Sam to attend the funeral of Walford matriarch Peggy Mitchell.

But, following the service, Sam was seen confessing to Roxy (Rita Simons) that she was struggling with being a mother and had a plan to go back to Portugal without her little boy.

Roxy then shared her own experiences of motherhood and Sam agreed to go for dinner with Richard in order to reconsider her options. However, Sam was later to be glimpsed getting into a taxi and fleeing Albert Square – abandoning Richard to the care of his father Jack (Scott Maslen).

Friday’s episode marks the end of Westbrook’s comeback to EastEnders, although the star was recently to be found lobbying on Instagram for a permanent return for Sam:

“It’s such a shame I won’t be going back to the show as I think people would of [sic] loved to see Sam as a mum and with a different take on the character… But I don’t write the show I just do what they tell me.

“And they’ve done what they always do – use Sam when she’s needed & then send her off in a black cab. I wish EastEnders would listen to the public more…But either way I’m grateful of the 4 episodes I got to film.”
