Kirin Kotcha (Adam Fielding) to leave Emmerdale this evening in the aftermath of the hit and run accident that killed Tess Harris.
Tonight’s episode of the ITV soap will see Kirin tell Vanessa that he’s departing because he feels he’s not up to the job of parenting baby Johnny. But, in reality, Kirin is merely trying to keep one step ahead of the forces of law and order.
Michelle Hardwick, who plays Vanessa, says of the emotional scene: “Vanessa finds Kirin in the house with his bags packed and a letter on the table. And when she asks what’s going on, he tells her that he never wanted a family and that he doesn’t love Johnny. It’s just horrendous.
“Of course, the audience knows the real reason he’s having to go, but Vanessa doesn’t. So she really has the rug pulled from under her. But it’s not too far down the line that the police come knocking on the door and Vanessa puts two and two together…”
Speaking about his upcoming departure, 22-year-old Adam Fielding, who has been with the soap since 2014, said recently: “I made the decision in April last year, so Kate [Oates, former producer] agreed to give me two six-month contracts. So it’s been on the cards since then.
“It’s important that there’s a character arc and a journey – and Kirin has been gifted one. I think Kirin’s mistakes will ensure that he means more as a character now.”
