Grieving husband Pierce Harris may currently be in the dark over his late wife Tess’s affair with village vet Paddy Kirk – but don’t expect the fling to stay a secret for long.
Viewers who saw tonight’s Emmerdale double bill witnessed Pierce left stunned after Tess was killed in a hit-and-run accident. But upcoming episodes will see him try to get to the truth surrounding her movements in the run-up to her demise, while Paddy will end up confessing his infidelity to wife Rhona.
But on the topic of whether Paddy can keep the truth from reaching Pierce’s ears, actor Dominic Brunt says: “The two of them have already met under sympathetic circumstances, so the next time they cross paths, you get to see whether Paddy can keep up the lie.
“And when Rhona finds out, there’s also the threat of her telling Pierce. Will he be able to work it out? And what is he going to do if he does? Paddy’s a coward and he was rubbish at dealing with the affair, so he’s going to be rubbish at dealing with this too.
“But I’m really looking forward to it. I haven’t actually read the script yet, but I know there is going to be a confrontation. How it happens, I don’t know.”
As to whether the current plotline should serve as a warning to all married men considering cheating on their wives, Brunt adds: “I really hope so. There’s nothing redeemable about what Paddy has done. It’s cowardly and weak. And the fact that he betrayed everyone and then decided he didn’t want Tess any more is despicable. You can’t sympathise with him.”
