Poldark’s Aidan Turner has a special message for fans after Drama Champion win

The Irish actor beat reigning TV Champion David Tennant to claim the coveted title

Poldark star Aidan Turner said a “huge thank you” to his fans after being voted RadioTimes.com Drama Champion 2015 on Sunday.

The Irish actor defeated reigning TV Champion David Tennant in an epic three-day final that attracted more than 7 million votes. Tennant’s fans fought bravely, but an extraordinarily well-organised social media campaign from Turner’s supporters saw him snatch victory.

“‘A huge thank you to all the fans who voted for me to be Radio Times Drama Champion of 2015,” said Turner. “It means a lot.”

However, the gracious star admitted that he had his suspicions about who was behind his victory: “I’m pretty sure my mum voted 1,000 times!” he joked. “Thanks fans!”

Both Turner and his Poldark co-star Eleanor Tomlinson enjoyed great support throughout the tournament, which almost saw Demelza making it to the final herself.

Turner will now go on to compete against seven other TV Champion genre winners in the Champion of Champions week beginning on Tuesday 25th August.
