Sammy Winward has landed her first TV role since exiting Emmerdale back in February.
The 29-year-old actress – whose character Katie Sugden was killed off earlier this year – will return to ITV to star opposite Rosie Cavaliero and Philip Glenister in the second series of hit drama series Prey.
Winward will play the heavily pregnant Emily, who finds her life under threat in the opening episode of a new three-part case. Philip Glenister is to star as prison officer David Murdoch, the father of Emily and a man forced to go ‘on the run’ after his daughter is targeted.
Writer Chris Lunt returns, while Rosie Cavaliero will also be back as no-nonsense DS Susan Reinhardt, who is now reporting to DCI Mike Ward (Ralph Ineson).
Also set to feature are MyAnna Buring as prisoner Jules, to whom David Murdoch is handcuffed at the outset of the drama, while Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Utopia, Misfits) will play Reinhardt’s new colleague DC Richard Iddon.
Speaking at the time of her Emmerdale exit, Sammy Winward – who starred on the soap for 14 years – said: “I’m going to miss everyone terribly. I’ve loved every second of playing Katie, but no one becomes an actor to play just one role, so now it’s time for me to move on.”
