New Tricks is set to welcome another new face when it returns for its 12th and final run this year.
Former EastEnder Tracy-Ann Oberman is joining the BBC1 crime drama, which follows the Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad as they investigate the Met’s cold cases, as a series regular.
Oberman will play Fiona Kennedy, forensic pathologist and partner to Danny Griffin (Nicholas Lyndhurst). She’ll join the drama during the run’s first episode.
“I’m delighted to be a part of the final series for such a well-loved show – especially playing a feisty, smart woman like Fiona. The production has pulled out all the stops to make this a fantastic finale for the fans and the cast and crew are a joy to work with,” said Oberman.
Series 12 will also see the arrival of Larry Lamb as ex-cop Ted Case, as well as the departure of Dennis Waterman, who has played Gerry Standing since the show’s first series in 2003.
Waterman is the last original cast member following the departures of Alun Armstrong, James Bolan and Amanda Redman between 2012 and 2013. New stars Tamzin Outhwaite and Nicholas Lyndhurst joined the show’s 10th series while Denis Lawson appeared for the first time in 2012.
“We can’t wait to see the new crew in action come Autumn,” added Polly Hill, BBC Head of Independent Drama.
Filming for the 12th series is currently underway.
