Idina Menzel’s hilarious response to John Travolta’s Oscars gaffe

The musical theatre star's lead role in new Broadway show If/Then was "performed" by Adele Dazeem for one night only...

Anyone else starting to feel sorry for John Travolta? The Grease star’s unfortunate gaffe at last Sunday’s Oscars ceremony, which saw him introduce Frozen star Idina Menzel as “Adele Dazeem”, just won’t go away. (In case you’ve been hiding under a rock these last few days, here you go…)

Travolta, bless him, has issued a rather sweet apology to the musical theatre actress, admitting he’s been “beating myself up” following the on-air mishap. “Then I thought… What would Idina Menzel say?

“She’d say, ‘Let it go, let it go!” he added, in reference to her performance of the Oscar-winning song from Frozen.

But while “Adele Dazeem” has sparked a wave of internet spoofs – including this rather excellent gadget allowing fans to “Travolt-ify” their names – Menzel’s response is arguably the best of all.

Currently appearing in Broadway musical If/Then, the 42-year-old actress was mysteriously absent from last night’s performance. Her replacement? “Adele Dazeem” who it was announced would be playing the role of Elizabeth in an insert tweeted out by one of Menzel’s co-stars.

The cast bio continues with further mispronunciations, crediting Dazeem’s appearance in Disney animated musical Farfignugen (the Travolta version of Frozen), and detailing  her performance as Moritz (Maureen) in Chris Columbus’ film version of Trent (er, Rent).

Menzel 1 – Travolta 0.
