Coronation Street: Sol Heras to exit as Ryan Connor

Love rat Ryan will leave "for the time being" later this summer, says a spokesperson for the ITV soap

Sol Heras is to depart the cobbles in the coming months after his character, Ryan Connor, leaves town. Coronation Street publicity manager Alison Sinclair confirmed the news earlier today when she tweeted: “Ryan will leave Weatherfield for the time being – end of the summer”.

Heras, 25, joined the ITV soap in 2012 after taking over the role of Ryan from Ben Thompson. Since his reintroduction, Ryan has been involved in several high-profile storylines: last year, mum Michelle (Kym Lomas) caught him snorting cocaine in the Rovers toilets, while earlier in 2013, he embarked on an affair with Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote).

The actor today admitted that he will miss his screen mother: “Kym is one of my best friends on the show. She took me under her wing and we’ve become best friends. She’s ace, we talk all the time. And with Ryan being Michelle’s son there’s a chance he could come back.”

But in an interview with the Daily Star on Sunday, Heras admitted that he has come in for some flak thanks to the actions of his character: “I get a lot of people shouting at me asking why I’m so mean to Chesney. Guys congratulate me on having a gorgeous girlfriend but other people moan and say I should leave her alone. I was on a golf course recently and the lady behind the bar refused to serve me. She said ‘You’re an a**ehole. I can’t serve you’.”
