Backstage gossip: According to the tabs, the pressure is getting to Leah – this week she’s been flapping like a walrus in a tornado, unable to choose which song to sing and bursting into tears on a regular basis. A “source” who probably doesn’t really exist told The Sun: “Leah is really feeling the weight of pressure on her shoulders. At one point she wished Cleo Higgins had beaten her into the final.” Uh-oh!
Road to the final: She made Jessie J press the button first in her blind audition, but will.i.am was sitting and waiting having obviously heard something in Leah’s unusual voice as soon as she started. After that she was always Will’s preferred artist, and even a below-par semi-final couldn’t stop her winning the Team Will public vote. A front-runner since her well received Minnie Riperton cover in the knockouts and her even better version of I Will Survive in the quarter-finals.
Bookies’ odds: 1/3F
Best performance: I Will Survive
RT verdict: The huge odds-on favourite. She proved her popularity by winning a public vote last week, and indeed scoring a chart hit with downloads of her quarter-final performance. If she can hold it together for the final – and if nobody else pulls something crazy out of the bag – she’s the winner. BBC bosses worried about The Voice’s credibility must be desperately hoping she can do it.
