Simon Cowell plans Olympic-themed X Factor 2012 live show

Media mogul hopes to honour Team GB's "heroes" on the ITV talent show this autumn - and says he misses the UK format

Simon Cowell has revealed that he’s got a special Olympic-themed X Factor live show in store for viewers later this year.

The media mogul plans to honour Britain’s Olympians and Paralympians on the hit ITV talent show this autumn, and told viewers that they would have to “wait and see” whether or not he can convince Team GB favourites Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis to appear as mentors on the show.

Speaking to Channel 5 News, Cowell said: “I think we’re going to do something around the Olympics on one of the live shows, so they’re all welcome. We like having heroes on our shows.”

Cowell also said that he’d like to see gold-medal winning Paralympian Ellie Simmonds on The X Factor, describing the swimmer as “a star.”

The 52-year-old, who left the UK X Factor’s judging panel in 2010, joked about cloning himself so that he could appear on the British X Factor in the future. “I don’t think this year,” he said. “[But] I wouldn’t rule it out another year.”

“I do miss doing it here,” he added.
