Desperate Scousewives heading for E4

Filming is about to start on the new structured reality show, set in Liverpool

Thought the only way was Essex? (Or Chelsea? Or Geordie?) Well think again, because Desperate Scousewives is coming soon to a TV near you.

Filming is about to begin on E4’s new eight-part ‘structured reality’ show, following the lives of the glam-obsessed girls and boys of Liverpool. Among those expected to be taking part is Chloe Cummings, the 21-year-old cousin of WAG Abbey Clancy.

As cameras chart the every move of the bold and the beautiful, the show also promises to make the most of Merseyside’s eye-catching landmarks, such as Liverpool’s glitzy waterfront, the Albert Dock, Anfield and Goodison Park football stadiums and shopping centre Liverpool One.

There’ll also be a chance to learn the local lingo, begging the questions: What will be the next ‘vajazzle’? And, will the denizens of Essex be ‘well jel’ of their North West counterparts?

Channel 4’s Kate Teckman, who commissioned Splash Media to make the series, said “The characters are bigger, the dresses are shorter and it’s going to be a lorra fun.”

Looking to assure us that it’s all authentic is co-executive producer Mal Young, a Liverpool local who helped bring the original Merseyside soap, Brookside, to TV.

Young said: “Liverpool is uniquely known the world over. I’m looking forward to being part of something that portrays my hometown and its vibrant characters in a new and exciting way.

“This is very much a view of life in the ultra-modern Liverpool.”

Executive producer Michael Massey said: “Scousers are friendly and funny… We’ve managed to get some fantastic characters with fascinating lives and great story lines.

“Throw all this into the vibrant and modern city that Liverpool has become and we are set for a fabulous series.”

Desperate Scousewives will air later this year on E4.
