Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Scandi police procedural meets Homeland in this underpowered thriller from director Brian De Palma, which unfortunately does little justice to either. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) and Soren Malling (The Killing) play the Copenhagen cops whose routine investigation of a domestic dispute is the catalyst to a murky mystery involving the CIA (in the form of snarky Guy Pearce), an Isis terrorist cell and a brooding Libyan wild card (Eriq Ebouaney). Rumours of production troubles and re-edits mean this is not prime De Palma, though there are the director's obligatory nods to Hitchcock with a Vertigo-inspired rooftop chase and the life-or-death climax set in a packed Spanish stadium during a bullfight. The insistent score by regular De Palma collaborator Pino Donaggio (Dressed to Kill) may be channelling Bernard Herrmann but, at times, the music seems to belong to another film.
