Despicable Me's
lovable yellow sidekicks get their own movie in this prequel that sends a trio of intrepid Minions to Sixties London in search of a truly evil leader. A succession of gags and pratfalls are fired at the audience, with the resulting chaos feeling like a Three Stooges for the under-tens. There's very little point to it, but it's hard to deny that the charmingly stupid leads and some clever comedy make for an enjoyable experience, aided in no small part by a killer classic rock soundtrack. Of the new additions, Sandra Bullock throws herself into voicing maniacally insecure villain Scarlett Overkill, while Jon Hamm gets some of the biggest laughs as her sidekick/husband. It may be best suited to younger fans, who will no doubt be shouting various quotes from the film all the way home. Nevertheless,
Minions
gives you exactly what you expect from the subservient critters, and makes up in entertainment for what it lacks in structure.
