Peaky Blinders will return for a third series on BBC2

BBC confirm that the Birmingham-based gangland drama will be coming back following a discreet continuity announcement after last night’s series two finale

BBC2’s period gangland drama Peaky Blinders has been recommissioned for a third series.

The BBC have formally confirmed the news that it will be returning to the same channel next year after Thursday night’s series two finale ended with a continuity announcer revealing that the show will be “returning”.

This means another outing for the Shelby family at the centre of the drama which stars Cillian Murphy as gang leader Tommy alongside Tom Hardy, Helen McCrory and Sam Neill.

Last night’s episode *spoiler alert* saw Tommy embark on an assassination attempt at Epsom races in a plot which didn’t go quite to plan. Fortunately a chance turn of events saw him live to see another day as the series concluded with him claiming to have a “few ideas” on the future of his crime operation… as well as announcing a plan to finally get married.
