Spot the plastic water bottle in this Downton Abbey series five press shot
Hugh Bonneville and Laura Carmichael are joined by a modern day imposter in an official snap from the fifth season...
Well, this is embarrassing. At first glance this is a nice snap of Lord Grantham (played by Hugh Bonneville) and his daughter Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) dressed to the nines in front of one of Downton Abbey’s splendid fireplaces. But, glance a little closer, and next to the grand clock and ornate vases you’ll spy a rather modern addition.
That’s right, your eyes don’t deceive you. That is, indeed, a water bottle lined up to the right of Edith. And while we can’t see close enough to identify whether it’s Evian, Volvic, or Highland Spring, we’re pretty sure none of the above were circulating plastic bottles in the 1920s.
The offending shot is no longer available on the ITV press site and Instagram account but that hasn’t stopped eagle-eyed fans having a good old laugh at Downton’s blooper.
