Old animosities will resurface on Coronation Street in the coming weeks when an angry Nick warns Peter to stay away from Leanne.
The drama will unfold after Leanne tells Nick that Toyah has invited them to Liverpool for Christmas. Nick happily agrees to go, knowing that Peter will be disappointed.
But what Nick hasn’t counted on is Leanne offering to take Peter shopping for Simon’s present – and the two of them making an attempt to put the bad times behind them.
Seeing Nick’s paranoia, Robert urges him to confront Peter and warn him off Leanne. Cue Nick visiting number one and giving his bitter enemy a piece of his mind.
But is Nick right to be worried about Peter’s intentions? Actor Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter, says of the rivalry: “Sometimes Nick’s actions towards Peter are valid, but other times Nick is a real worrier and he gets paranoid.
“There is always something that Peter will be doing that no one else can see apart from Nick. So he is possibly right to be wary of Peter most of the time.”
And who will get the upper hand in this particular encounter? Adds Gascoyne, “It’s always an interesting one because the balance always shifts.
“I kind of like that – nobody wins and nobody loses overall. It’s like Mike Baldwin and Ken Barlow. Nick likes to say things like, ‘I’m a better man than Peter’ but Peter finds that embarrassing, really.
“I’ve had a lot of nice scenes with Ben Price [Nick] that I’ve really enjoyed doing because, even if they are having a nice conversation at face value, what’s actually happening between them is always a very different story.”
