Hollyoaks: Darren Jeffries to reprise his role as O.B after eight years away

He will return as part of the Osborne disappearance plot

Hollyoaks have announced the return of popular character Sam “O.B” O’Brien to the Channel 4 soap. O.B, played by actor Darren Jeffries, is set to return to Chester in a couple of weeks, with his first scenes airing during the week commencing 14 November.

O.B first appeared on Hollyoaks back in 1997 and was a regular on the soap for over a decade. Fans of the show will remember him primarily for his ‘bromance’ with best mate Max Cunningham, played by Matt Littler.

The pair won Best Onscreen Partnership at the British Soap Awards in 2008 and were involved in many memorable storylines over the years, including O.B saving Max from being killed by wife Claire (played by Gemma Bissex) in a lakeside showdown.

Another highlight was Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s cameo appearance, which came about when O.B’s girlfriend Summer Shaw (played by Summer Strallen) was cast in The Sound of Music in a special cross-over episode.

The last we saw of the character was when he left for London in 2008, shortly after Max died in his arms. On his return, he will team up with Cindy Cunningham (Max’s sister) and Grace Black to investigate the disappearance of the Osborne family.

Speaking about his return to the role, Jeffries said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to bring O.B back to Hollyoaks village. If anyone can get to the bottom of where the Osbornes are it’s him. I still can’t believe it’s been over eight years since I left the show, it feels like I’ve never been away.”
