Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has championed new producer Kate Oates, saying that the cast feel lucky to have her.
“Kate ‘the genius’ Oates is wonderful,” Marsh told RadioTimes.com at the Inside Soap Awards. “We’re so privileged to have her. She’s wonderful and she’s already doing some fantastic things for the show. The storylines we’re getting are fabulous and there’s a real buzz about her.”
Marsh’s character Michelle is about to be hit with fresh drama when it’s revealed that husband Steve could have genetic condition Myotonic Dystrophy and that their unborn baby might also be affected.
What Michelle doesn’t know, of course, is that Steve has also got Leanne Battersby pregnant – and that her baby may also have inherited the muscle wasting disease.
Speaking about co-star Jane Danson, Marsh joked: “I’m fuming with her. I can’t believe she’d do that to a fellow actor! Seriously though, we’re really enjoying working together. She’s a wonderful actress and it’s nice to have new dynamics.
“We’re also comparing our fake baby bumps. It’s the strangest thing. We both sit there rubbing our bellies and people do tend to come up to us and touch our bumps.”
As for the drama that lies ahead for Michelle, Leanne and Steve, the star teased: “There’s a lot still to come from the plotline.
“The genetic condition is another big dramatic turn and, going on from that, there’s more stuff to come. It’s a storyline that will not be left tepid and people will continue to be gripped.”
