EastEnders: Bonnie Langford debuts as Kush’s mum Carmel – and clashes with Shabnam

Tensions run high as Shabs meets the woman set to become her mother-in-law

Shabnam Masood will get engaged to Kush Kazemi in the coming weeks, but how will she fare when she meets her future mother-in-law?

Actress Bonnie Langford is to make her debut as Kush’s mum Carmel in scenes to be shown on Tuesday 25 May and we think she’s definitely got the look of a Peggy Mitchell about her.

So what will she make of the atmosphere at the Massod high where tensions are already running high thanks to the exposure of Shabnam’s baby secret? Will a nervous Shabnam make a good first impression or will her nervous behaviour be too much for Carmel?

Speaking last month when her signing to EastEnders was announced, Bonnie Langford said: “I’m so thrilled and delighted to be part of EastEnders. I’m a great fan of the show and think the recent 30th anniversary was sensational and shows just how good British television can be. To be part of this family is an absolute privilege.”

Executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins added: “Bonnie Langford is a British institution – and an old-school hard-graft actress gifted at both comedy and serious drama.

“Bonnie brings wit, pathos and a touch of class to Carmel Kazemi – a thoroughly modern Essex divorcée who isn’t quite ready to cut the apron strings firmly attached to her son Kush.

“Even if it means clashing spectacularly with an already prickly Shabnam…”
