Michael Gambon and Richard Dormer take you behind-the-scenes of new Sky Atlantic drama Fortitude

Discover the mammoth challenges involved in shooting the Arctic Circle drama also starring Stanley Tucci, Sofie Grabol, Christopher Eccleston and Jessica Raine

Sky Atlantic’s new drama Fortitude has been shot in Iceland – and not surprisingly it’s been quite an undertaking.

As this exclusive behind-the-scenes video shows, the logistics involved in creating the 12-part series were complicated, with snowmobiles and helicopters needed to transport the cast and crew around the vast and freezing country.

But fortunately for everyone involved, the weather held up and the drama was able to use the spectacular scenery to good effect, reducing the cast to “tiny little motes of dust” according to Game of Thrones star Richard Dormer who plays the Arctic Town’s sheriff Dan Anderssen.

Set in the snowy community of Fortitude, the drama will chart the fallout of a mysterious and violent murder.

Hunger Games actor Stanley Tucci plays the investigating detective DCI Morton who flies to Fortitude from the UK to investigate the murder alongside Anderssen.

The Killing star Sofie Grabol has taken on the role of the town’s Governor whose regeneration plans are scuppered by the killing.

Former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston stars as an English scientist and Michael Gambon plays wildlife photographer Henry Tyson who has only weeks to live.

Fortitude airs on Sky Atlantic HD in January 2015
