Kylie Platt is to make a shock disappearance from Weatherfield this winter as actress Paula Lane takes her maternity leave.
Show boss Stuart Blackburn has revealed that the Platts will be left reeling by Kylie’s vanishing act and even suggested that young Max’s biological father Callum (Sean Ward) could end up threatening the boy’s future at No 8 Coronation Street.
“For the Platts, it’s just chaos, isn’t it?” said producer Blackburn. “Kylie has gone back to her past and will fall into drug addiction. There’s some incredibly moving, powerful stuff. There will come a point where, for obvious reasons, Kylie vanishes. But the story doesn’t end there because, by then, David will have wound up Callum, who is not only Kylie’s violent ex, but also the father of Max. He’ll do anything he can to get payback from David.”
In a further hint about what lies ahead, Blackburn added: “We might also find that he has a few legal rights over Max as well given that he is his natural father.”
Speaking recently about her upcoming temporary exit from the ITV soap, Paula Lane recently commented:
“I was really terrified of telling Stuart Blackburn that I was pregnant. I couldn’t bring myself to say it at first and I think he thought I wanted to leave. He said, ‘It’s great, we’ll sort it out’ and this light bulb went ding! It is going to be a traumatic exit for Kylie. It has to be.”
