Paul Nicholls will join Sheridan Smith in The C Word – the BBC’s adaptation of writer Lisa Lynch’s book about her experience of battling cancer.
Smith will play Lynch with Nicholls signed up to star as her husband Pete whom she married shortly before being diagnosed with breast cancer aged 28.
Adapted by Nicole Taylor (Secret Diary of a Call Girl), The C Word is described as a “defiant, ballsy account which captures the no-nonsense and witty style of Lisa’s writing and personality.”
Haydn Gwynne (Peak Practice) and Michael Maloney (The White Queen) will play Lisa’s parents with Nate Fallows portraying her brother Jamie and Rebekah Staton and Susannah Field confirmed as her friends, Gabby and Abigail.
Lynch passed away in 2013 aged 33 but handpicked Smith to play her as well as working closely with both Taylor and BBC Drama Production on the script. The 90-minute drama will begin filming in London this Sunday.
