ITV has released new images of Tina McIntyre’s friends and neighbours keeping a hospital vigil following the discovery of her motionless body. Tina is left fighting for survival after she plunges to the cobbles to the cobbles from the balcony of the builders’ yard in the wake of a dramatic confrontation with her killer.
“It’s all been very glamorous,” laughs Michelle Keegan, who is bowing out of Coronation Street after six-and-a-half years on the ITV soap. “I’ve had lots of fake blood in my hair. When I had a shower, it was like a scene from Psycho. There was a silicon patch on my eye to keep it shut because of the swelling on Tina’s brain. That felt really odd because I couldn’t open my eye while it was on. I didn’t like it, but I did take lots of photos!”
Tina’s life is set to hang in the balance until her fight comes to an end in hospital on Monday 2 June. Show bosses are promising that Tina’s death will have “far-reaching consequences for many residents”, with questions being raised about whether the murderer will walk free leaving an innocent suspect to take the rap.
The four suspects in the running for killing Tina are Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), Carla Barlow (Alison King), Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) and Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis). And for those who need a reminder about the motives, here’s Keegan again with a quick rundown:
“Well, obviously, there’s Peter, who doesn’t want Tina to tell Carla about their affair. He’s on the brink of losing it all and knows that if she opens her mouth then it’ll be game over. If Carla finds out about the affair, then that’s her motive, plus there’s the fact that their affair started on her wedding night!
“Rob also has a motive because Tina finds out that he and Tracy have been doing dodgy dealings and also Tina’s been having an affair with his sister’s husband. Finally, there’s Tracy, who has always had it in for Tina. She too is worried that Tina will report them for their dealings in Barlow’s Buys and I also don’t think she’s ever gotten over her and Rob’s kiss.”
The nation is sure to be gripped by the exit of one of the Street’s most high profile characters, but where will Keegan be watching those pivotal scenes? “I’ll watch it at my Dad’s house. That’s where I watched my first episode too, so we’ll all be watching it over there. I think it’ll be hard for my family, though. They’ve found those pictures on my phone hard enough to look at!”
