BBC1 crime drama Shetland gets full series

The murder mystery set on the Scottish islands starring Douglas Henshall will return for a six part series

Shetland, an atmospheric murder mystery set in the Shetland islands, has been commissioned for a second series by BBC1.

The new six part series will follow on from the popular two-part debut last month, which introduced main character Detective Jimmy Perez.

The two parter, which starred Douglas Henshall, Gemma Chan and Steven Robertson, was based on best-selling crime novel Red Bones by Anne Cleeves, while the new series will focus on Cleeve’s remaining novels, Raven Black, Dead Water and Blue Lightning.

Head of Drama for BBC Scotland and Executive Producer Christopher Aird said: “I am so pleased we are taking Shetland to a full series. Douglas Henshall is a hugely talented lead and Shetland such a unique part of the country; we can look forward to a series of characterful, thrilling and windswept stories.”

Filming for the upcoming series will take part over the next few months in Scotland and the Shetland islands.
