Pig

A revenge tale with a difference, this slow-burning drama stars Nicolas Cage as Robin, a former gourmet chef now eking out an existence as a reclusive truffle hunter in the Oregon wilderness, with only a pig for company. When said porcine pal is kidnapped by culinary rivals, Robin returns to the city he left behind years earlier, intent on retrieving the animal and settling a few scores. Given the leading man's CV, it comes as a surprise that Pig eschews action-packed showdowns and instead paints a mournful, thought-provoking portrait of a figure haunted by an unspoken past he'd rather not revisit. Cage gives one of the most measured, understated performances of his career, arguably his best since winning an Oscar for 1995's Leaving Las Vegas, and effectively conveys years of pain and regret through the mist in Robin's eyes.
