EastEnders spoilers: details of Stan Carter’s death revealed

Timothy West will make his final appearance on the BBC1 soap next week

Timothy West is to make his final appearance on EastEnders next week when his character Stan Carter dies from prostate cancer.

In the run-up to his demise, Stan will be seen saying an emotional goodbye to ex-wife Sylvie before making plans to marry Cora Cross. But the family feud between Shirley and Mick shows little sign of being fixed, despite Stan’s pleas that they bury the hatchet.

The shock return of Buster Briggs to the Square only serves to remind Mick of all the lies and deceit within the family. But when Mick swallows his pride and visits Shirley at home in an attempt to build bridges, he gets the door slammed in his face.

But by Friday – as Stan’s condition deteriorates further – Shirley and Mick try to put their differences to one side. After coming clean about their feelings, the pair admit that they miss each other. However, worried for her son, Shirley soon sends a reluctant Mick home and assures him she can cope at the hospital by herself – Stan is her father.

Shirley remains by Stan’s bedside and refuses to let go of her dad – and after some final words from Stan, he peacefully slips away.

Stan’s death is set to feature in the same week as Carol Jackson receiving news that her own dad Jim Branning has died. Jim’s off-screen demise comes seven months after the death of actor John Bardon, who passed away in September 2014.
