“I pulled out the ring from my butt cheeks,” says Grylls in the interview. “She was standing there going ‘what are you doing?’ She was in a towel and a massive Atlantic roller came and I went, ‘will you,’ and it… took me up the beach.

“I had all the seaweed and I was spinning around, so I tried it again and, and in this sort of moment of heavy sedation she said ‘yes’”.

Tonight the star will also admit on TV that he loves being naked in the elements: “’If there’s a substantial body of water around and nobody’s looking, I’m often quite tempted to strip off and dive in,” he says. Grylls has previously sent X Factor presenter Dermot O’Leary a naked picture of him diving off a cliff in Wales.

“I think [Dermot], he texted me going ‘where are you at the moment?’ And I sent him a picture of me [diving naked].” Grylls explains that he does this same naked jump most mornings when he’s on the Welsh island where he owns a house.

The action man recently starred in NBC show Running Wild with Bear Grylls, which saw him take A-list celebrities, including Zoolander actor Ben Stiller, Step Up lead man Channing Tatum, and 17 Again star Zac Efron, into the wild. Channel 4 has also commissioned a new series of The Island with Bear Grylls, which sees a group of regular men try and survive in the wilderness for a month. This time the show will have an island of women and an island of men.
