Educating Yorkshire wins best Documentary Series at NTAs 2014

Channel 4's school observational doc takes home National Television Award for best Documentary Series

This year’s National Television Award for best Documentary Series has been awarded to Educating Yorkshire.

The Channel 4 obs-doc captured viewers’ hearts, with stories such as Musharaf overcoming his stammer earning particular plaudits.

The NTAs were the scene of a double success for the pupils of Thornhill Academy, as the school choir helped open the show with a musical extravaganza.

The programme went on to see off tough competition from fellow nominees Inside Death Row with Trevor McDonald, Paul O’Grady’s Working Britain and Penguins – Spy in the Huddle.

Headmaster Mr Mitchell said, “The thing that makes me proudest this evening is walking into the studio and seeing 30 of my students opening the show.”

And Musharaf too took to the mic, simply shouting, “Yes! Yes! Yes!”
