Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Set in London and shot during the Covid-19 pandemic, Locked Down sees a couple rekindle their passion while masterminding a Harrods diamond heist. Directed by Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow), the film stars Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor as the couple trapped in their home during lockdown, despite their relationship being over. When fate brings their work assignments together - she's a marketing CEO in charge of an event showcasing a pricey diamond; he's the delivery driver due to transport the gem - it gives them an opportunity to change their lives. Steven Knight's script often feels overwritten, yet the film's anarchic spirit is appealing. Hathaway delivers some enjoyably deranged behaviour, drunkenly banging saucepans in support of the NHS, quaffing wine during work hours, and permanently sporting pyjama bottoms. Meanwhile, awkward video calls with colleagues give the opportunity for cameos aplenty (including from Ben Stiller and Ben Kingsley). Although it's something of a creative wheeze, the film really captures the pandemic state of mind.
