Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

The sixth instalment in the Terminator franchise marks the return of original director James Cameron (as producer and co-writer) and Linda Hamilton as heroine Sarah Connor. The story finds her catapulted through time to save a young woman from a sleeker, even more ruthless robot than she ever encountered herself. Reluctantly, she seeks out muscular assistance from her own erstwhile mechanical nemesis (Arnold Schwarzenegger), now living in seclusion and trying to assimilate into human society. Gamely retreading ideas from previous films (although Cameron argues this film is a natural successor to 1991's Judgment Day), the predictable narrative is little more than a convenient peg upon which to hang a series of explosive set pieces. There's considerable bang for your buck in that department, and Hamilton convinces as the veteran vigilante who's seen it all before, but Arnie's superannuated cyborg often seems surplus to requirement.
