Hannibal defeats Poldark to claim Radio Times Drama Show Champion title

The US drama about Silence of the Lambs villain Hannibal Lecter toppled the popular Poldark in a hotly contested Drama Show Champion final

Step aside and put down that scythe – there’s a new drama show champion in town and his name is Hannibal.

The NBC series – which was cancelled earlier this year – fought an epic final battle to beat BBC period drama Poldark to the crown.

More than 6 million votes were cast in the tournament, which saw shows like The Last Kingdom, London Spy, Wolf Hall and Banished competing for the title.

A strong Twitter campaign from Hannibal fans saw the drama starring Mads Mikkelsen as the cannibalistic Dr Lecter through clashes with Broadchurch and Empire before trumping Aidan Turner’s smouldering Cornish hero in the final.

Hannibal will now go head to head with Online Show Champion Phil Lester in the TV Show Champion Finals, which begin at 3pm GMT today, Wednesday December 16th, and pit the winners of the different TV Show Champion genres against one another.
