Downton Abbey is set to bow out this Christmas. After six seasons, the Crawleys will say goodbye over a feature-length special that’ll dominate the schedules on 25th December.

How they’ll bid adieu remains a heavily guarded secret, but we’ve had a sneak peek at a few pictures from the festive special, and it looks like we are in for a classic episode.

The Dowager Countess can be seen gossiping in her living room, and swapping presumably witty words with Spratt and Denker. There are lots of haughty looks, meaningful expressions and a little drama over the dinner table (though no burst ulcers, thankfully.)

The gang’s serene smiles imply there won’t be any dramatic twists or devastating deaths to contend with, but, hey, it’s Downton Abbey, we can never be sure.

And there are plenty of snaps which promise satisfying endings, too: Bertie Pelham is back, mother in tow, hopefully to reignite his romance with poor Edith; Thomas Barrow is smiling again; Lady Mary is standing near Henry’s car; Isobel and Merton look closer than ever; Lady Rose has returned; and Cora has become a public speaker. Hooray!
