Aidan Turner crowned Radio Times Drama Champion 2015

The Poldark star defeated the incumbent TV Champion in an epic drama battle that attracted more than 7 million votes

Poldark star Aidan Turner has won Radio Times Drama Champion 2015, defeating last year’s tournament winner David Tennant in an epic three-day final that attracted more than 7 million votes.  


Despite a valiant effort from Tennant fans, in the end there was nothing they could do to prevent the Aidan Turner supporters from taking 53% of the vote thanks to a well-organised social media campaign.  

The Irish actor, 32, who made his name playing John Mitchell in BBC3 supernatural drama Being Human, will now go on to compete against seven other TV Champion genre winners in the Champion of Champion week beginning on Tuesday.  

The matches starting on Tuesday are as follows:

Aidan Turner (Drama Champion) v Sarra Elgan (Sport Champion)

Kieron Richardson (Soap Champion) vs David Attenborough (Factual Champion)

James Morton (Food Champion) vs Sam Heughan (Sci-f- and Fantasy Champion)

Ricky Wilson (Entertainment Champion) vs Ricky Gervais (Comedy Champion)
