The Scottish actor – who beat off stiff competition from the likes of Doctor Who and Arrow’s John Barrowman, Once Upon A Time stars Lana Parrilla and Colin O’Donoghue, and finally The 100’s Eliza Taylor-Cotter – told RadioTimes.com that he was thrilled with the fans’ support for both himself and co-star Caitriona Balfe.

“An incredible war has just been fought! Battling some huge Science Fiction icons,” said Heughan, “and our fans did it!

“I’m honored to be awarded the Radio Times Sci-Fi Champion. Outlander fans have proven they are the most passionate, supportive and dedicated.

“I gratefully accept it on behalf of them. And Jamie and Claire…”

Heughan was regularly spotted rallying the troops on Twitter throughout the contest, during which a TV Champion record-breaking 41 million votes were cast.

The battle may be won, but the war isn’t over yet… Heughan now progresses to the Champion of Champion rounds where he will face winners from some of the seven other genre categories. Outlander fans have made him their Sci-Fi champ, but could he be crowned RadioTimes.com TV Champion 2015?
