Hannibal may have had his last supper. American network NBC has announced that the Silence of the Lambs prequel starring Mads Mikkelsen will end after the third series, currently showing on Sky Living in the UK.
Showrunner Bryan Fuller seemed to take the news pretty well…initially.
“NBC has allowed us to craft a television series that no other broadcast network would have dared,” he said in a statement, praising the network for allowing “images that would have shredded the eyeballs of lesser Standards & Practices enforcers.”
He went on: “Hannibal is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine again.”
Did you catch that? Yes, Fuller is clearly not willing to let Hannibal die entirely, perhaps searching for a new home for the show. And thus #savehannibal was born.
So what’s the plan? Well…
His feed soon filled with celebrity Fannibals.
And tributes to Fannibals all over the world.
Hannibal was soon trending on Twitter, which is often the first stage in an online comeback for a cancelled TV series. Will it work in this case? Or will the cannibal finally get his just desserts?
Hannibal series 3 is currently showing in the UK on Sky Living, Wednesday, 10pm
