Rob Lowe, Megan Mullally and Mathew Baynton to star in new drama Apocalypse Slough

The new Sky1 show will also feature the US Office's Jenna Fischer, Paterson Joseph, Pauline Quirke and Joel Fry

Sky1 have attracted a bumper cast to star in their new series – the excellently-named Apocalypse Slough.

The ten-part drama will be led by US stars Rob Lowe (The West Wing, Brothers and Sisters) and Megan Mullally (Will and Grace), with Jenna Fischer (the US Office) also on board, although it’s not yet clear whether Slough’s famous paper headquarters Wernham Hogg – setting of the original Office series – will make an appearance…

Joining their ranks are British actors Mathew Baynton (The Wrong Mans, Yonderland), Paterson Joseph (Babylon), Pauline Quirke (Birds of a Feather) and Joel Fry (Plebs).

Apocalypse Slough promises to do what it says on the tin, looking at the last days of mankind with a “relentlessly entertaining mix of action, adventure, romance and wit set against a backdrop of apocalyptic chaos”.

The plot will follow an eclectic group of seemingly unconnected characters as they fight for survival before a comet collides with earth, battling to reach a bunker deep beneath the suburbs of – you guessed it – Slough. If they make it, they could become the unlikely (and somewhat unsuitable) future of mankind.

Among the motley crew are… Father Jude, the Vatican’s most rebellious priest (played by Lowe), mild-mannered librarian Rhonda (Fischer), unhinged white supremacist (Mullally) and humble slough bank manager (Baynton).

Quirke will portray Jamie’s tough-as-nails mum Paula, Fry plays Dave – Jamie’s hedonistic best friend – and Joseph joins the cast as General Gaines,  responsible for briefing the American President on high-level military matters.

The series will be created and written by Iain Hollands (Beaver Falls) with Michael Engler (30 Rock) serving as lead director.

Plans are in place to broadcast on Sky1 in the UK and NBC over in America, but who will survive Apocalypse Slough? We’ll have to wait and see…
