Battling cancer couldn’t be more different to the high-octane combat scenes we watch in our favourite action movies.

But, what a group of TV stars are aiming to demonstrate, is that the fight is no less urgent.

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has teamed up with Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery, Luther’s Idris Elba, The Fall’s Gillian Anderson and Cilla’s Sheridan Smith, as well as Tom Hardy, Steve Coogan, Eddie Redmayne, and Anna Friel, in a new Stand Up to Cancer video.

The minute-long clip, which was directed by Samarkand director Greg Williams, cuts together footage of cancer patients with shots of the A-listers sprinting towards the camera.

Of the project, Elba said: “I know from personal experiences the devastating effect that cancer can have on people’s lives. My own father passed away from lung cancer in September 2013. It affected the whole family, turned our lives upside down and is truly something that we absolutely need to stop in the future. What we need to do this is funding, and that’s why it’s so important for people to do what they can to support Stand Up To Cancer and help beat cancer sooner.”
