ITV developing British take on The Good Wife

The broadcaster is working on a potential four-series show, said to have echoes of the Julianna Margulies US legal drama, can reveal

How does the idea of a British Good Wife sound?

Well ITV thinks it has quite a good ring to it and is understood to be developing an epic drama series which it is thought could draw favourable comparisons with the hit CBS legal and political drama.

According to sources, the network is considering a pitch for the idea, with the current proposal for four series of ten parts each.

The Good Wife stars Julianna Margulies as lawyer Alicia Florrick who holds the fort while her disgraced husband – Sex in The City actor Chris Noth – languishes in jail following a sex and corruption scandal.

It has already run to five series following its 2009 premiere.
