Olivia Colman on the Broadchurch phenomenon, spoilers… and series 2

“It’s all starting again, there’s no end to the secret keeping,” jokes Colman who says the show is “old-fashioned telly - you just have to wait”

Is Olivia Colman reprising her role as DI Ellie Miller in Broadchurch series two? It was the question on all of our lips at the annual Radio Times Covers’ Party this year.

The answer? Well, make of it what you will…

“Maybe. I think I’m in it, but I might be killed off, I might not last the whole… I don’t know,” teased Colman whilst talking exclusively to RadioTimes.com

Speaking about how the ITV drama captured audiences, Colman says it’s fundamentally down to the writer Chris Chibnall.

“He is a brilliant writer. He’s very good at that cliffhanger every week and leaving it for a week between episodes. It was old-fashioned telly, how I remember it. You just have to wait,” explains Colman.

Of course a big part of a ‘who dunnit’ drama is not revealing who did it. Olivia said it was nice when the secret was finally out: “Then after that there were loads of people saying ‘I haven’t watched it yet’ and I was like, ‘Oh come one!’ I’ve been managing to hold it together for months and then there’s still people saying, ‘don’t tell me’.”

Olivia adds, “Now it’s all starting again, it’s awful – there’s no end to the secret keeping.”
