Following the acquistion earlier this year of History drama Vikings, on demand service LoveFilm is set to launch a second exclusive series, Copper.
The Emmy-nominated crime drama, which has already aired on BBC America in the US, will make its UK debut on LoveFilm on Friday, when the entire series will become available for subscribers to stream.
The drama follows tough New York police detective Kevin Corcoran who returns from the American Civil War to find that his daughter has been murdered and his wife is missing. As he tries to piece together what has happened to his family, Corcoran must solve high-profile cases and negotiate a time of racial tension and social struggles.
The 19th century-set drama stars Spooks’ Tom Weston-Jones as Corcoran, as well as Kyle Schmid and Anastasia Griffith.
LoveFilm’s chief marketing officer Simon Morris said of the new acquisition: “We’re always looking to bring great new TV content to British viewers, and following the success of Vikings it’s exciting to see the faith content creators have in our platform as a way to launch new shows in this country.”
LoveFilm hosted the UK premiere of History’s Vikings earlier this year. There has been a noticeable increase in UK premieres and original content on VOD services recently, with Netflix launching a number of original series like House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, Arrested Development and Orange is the New Black.
Copper will be available on LoveFilm on 13 September
