Kris Marshall: Death in Paradise is “a cross between Columbo and Scooby-Doo”
“Not every show has to be shot down in a Danish alleyway,” says the star of the Guadaloupe-set BBC1 police series
Kris Marshall, who plays DI Humphrey Goodman in BBC1 drama Death in Paradise, says he considers the hit show as “a cross between Columbo and Scooby-Doo.”
Set on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, the police series is far less gritty than some of the more trendy TV crime drama— but Marshall wouldn’t want it any other way. “Not every show has to be shot down in a Danish alleyway.”
Even the murders are “friendly murders”, says the My Family actor in the new issue of Radio Times. “After all, in what other show does everyone who gets killed have perfect hair?”
Asked about what it was like filming in such intense Caribbean heat for six months at a time, Marshall said, “Eighty per cent of the time it’s the most amazing job in the world.
“The other 20 per cent, it’s like putting on a wet suit, getting into a sauna and doing Hamlet. It’s that hot. In the police station the walls close in on you. You start to go mad.”
