British DC Comics fans can rest easy. New origin series Gotham has found a home in the UK.
The dark drama, which is set to give us a glimpse of the crime-ridden world that pre-dates the Batman movies, will air on FOX in the US this September – before crossing the Atlantic to premiere on Channel 5 later this year.
“Gotham is a thrilling drama built on iconic characters that fascinate. Channel 5 is delighted to become the home of such a powerful, bold and visually stunning show. Its acquisition proves we continue to be committed to the biggest in US drama,” said Channel 5’s head of acquisitions Katie Keenan.
Gotham, which stars The OC’s Ben McKenzie as Gotham commissioner-to-be James Gordon, will kick off when a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) sees both his parents gunned down and Gordon is tasked with solving their murders.
While showrunner Bruno Hellor has said there will be no superheroes in his drama, Batman’s future enemies –younger versions of Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Penguin and The Riddler – do appear.
Gotham also stars Robin Lord Taylor, Cory Michael Smith and Donal Logue.
