A year on from the game's launch, the developers have seen fit to tease their future plans for Elden Ring, which earned plenty of rave reviews at launch and has picked up loads of awards since.

Keep on reading to learn all about the newly announced Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, and what you should expect.

Will there be Elden Ring DLC?

Yes! It has now been confirmed that Elden Ring will receive a major post-launch DLC expansion named Shadow of the Erdtree.

Publishers Bandai Namco and developers FromSoftware announced the news on Tuesday 28th February, posting on Twitter and the official Bandai Namco website.

As you can see in the official Tweet below, some ominous concept art has also been revealed with the news that an expansion "is currently in development".

The official post teasingly said, "Rise, Tarnished, and and let us walk a new path together... We hope you look forward to new adventures in the Lands Between."

Both of these lines make us think that the Elden Ring DLC will feature major additions to the story. Here's hoping for a new area to explore and fresh foes to fight.

When could Elden Ring DLC come out?

It's worth noting that no release date has been confirmed for the Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, with the announcement today merely stating that it is in development.

Although many FromSoftware games have received DLC within a year of their launch, it's worth remembering that Sekiro's DLC came out 19 months after its initial release.

It's already been a year since Elden Ring came out, so here's hoping that the DLC will be available in the next few months. Perhaps a realistic guess would be the end of this year.

When a date is confirmed, or when anything else comes up, we'll let you know here! For now, we'll just be fantasising about the potential for cool new boss battles.
