Cilla Black on why Sheridan Smith’s Cilla should win at the Bafta TV Awards 2015

The showbiz veteran loved the ITV biopic of her rise to fame, and she's gunning for it to win the Radio Times Audience Award...

Where you nervous about reliving your youth on TV?

Not really. I told it like it was. My late husband Bobby would have been kinder and told a different story, but I was a bitch then!

Is there anything you would have changed?

Not really. I could smell the 60s and of course Sheridan Smith was fabulous. I watched her in Mrs Biggs and I thought, “how the hell is she going to play me?” But she got it spot on.

Did your family watch the series together?

No, I watched it on my own. It was emotional, particularly when I sang Don’t Answer Me because Bobby and I were split up at the time.

Why does Cilla deserve the Bafta?

Because of Jeff Pope’s incredible writing and the amazing casting of Sheridan. As my agent said, it’s the best show I’ve never done!
