Series three of Mr Selfridge sees two glamorous additions as real-life sisters Kara and Hannah Tointon join the cast as Rosalie and Violette, daughters of department store owner Harry Gordon Selfridge (played by Jeremy Piven).
The Tointons – best known for their work in EastEnders and The Inbetweeners, plus Kara’s Strictly win – make quite a splash in the opening episode as Rosalie marries dashing Russian prince and playboy Serge de Bolatoff in a glamorous society wedding.
“I don’t need to get married now because I’ve done it,” Kara tells us. “I’ve walked up and down the aisle about 1,500 times.” Although, the actress – who played Dawn Swann for four years in EastEnders – is relieved one of her characters finally reached the altar. “A couple of times I’ve almost made it down the aisle but never quite. I was always the bride but never the bride.”
While Kara gets to be the centre of attention, her younger sister plays her rebellious sibling Violette. “She’s quite ballsy and very confident so hopefully we’ll see her mixing things up a bit,” says Hannah. “The idea is that my character takes after Harry and has his genes.”
Mr Selfridge sees the Tointon sisters are working together for the first time, although it hasn’t been without its distractions…
“We keep on looking at each other and laughing because we can’t take each other seriously,” jokes Hannah.
Mr Selfridge series three starts on Sunday 25th January at 9:00pm on ITV
