First peek at Judi Dench and Dustin Hoffman in Esio Trot

Judi Dench is wrapped up warm for her starring role in BBC1's Christmas drama Esio Trot, adapted from the Roald Dahl story

Dame Judi Dench is looking snug in the first preview picture of BBC1’s Christmas drama Esio Trot.

Dench and US film star Dustin Hoffman star in the adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s story as Mrs Silver and Mr Hoppy. Retired bachelor Mr Hoppy hides a secret passion for his neighbour, but Mrs Silver is more interested in caring for her other great love – her pet tortoise Alfie.

The 90-minute drama, adapted by Love Actually director Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer, is set to be one of the highlights of the BBC’s Christmas schedule.

“I think of all the films that I have written with the word ‘love’ in them, this is the finished couple – the couple most likely to stay together,” said Curtis at a recent London screening of the film, which also features British actor James Corden.
