Former Doctor Who actor Christopher Eccleston is to play a retired policeman thrust unexpectedly back into the criminal world in a new ITV drama called Safe House.
Inspired by the story of a real couple, the drama begins when Eccleston’s character Robert and his teacher wife Katy (Marsha Thomason) are asked by close friend and police officer Mark (Paterson Joseph), to turn their remote Lake District B&B into a safe house for protected witnesses and crime victims.
Their decision to say yes means Robert revisiting the memory of a tragedy from his time as a policeman when a witness he was protecting was shot and killed.
“As a consequence of running the safe house, Robert re-questions this incident and uncovers a web of lies,” according to ITV.
Filming begins today on the four-part drama for a likely broadcast next year.
ITV’s director of drama Steve November said Safe House was “a compelling four-part drama… with great characters and genuine twists which keep you guessing right to the end.”
