Netflix drama Sense8 starts filming in Chicago and will move on to London

New sci-fi series from the makers of House of Cards and Orange is the New Black begins in Illinois this week, before moving on to Europe

Matrix and Cloud Atlas creators the Wachowski siblings are behind Netflix’s new sci-fi drama Sense8, and have arrived in Chicago to begin shooting.

The sci-fi duo will join Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski in producing the series, about eight characters across the globe who find themselves emotionally connected after a death.

Straczynski explained to Deadline. “They can not only see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, they have access to each other’s deepest secrets. Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organisation out to capture, kill or vivisect them.”

The 10-part series, staring Naveen Andrews (Lost), Daryl Hannah (Kill Bill), Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who) and Brian J. Smith (Stargate Universe), will shoot on W Harrison St and W Maxwell St in the Illinois city this week.

Extras are also wanted for the series. Small parts include playing members of a SWAT team, prison inmates, doctors, nurses, criminals, military and large public crowds.

Filming for Sense8 began in San Francisco in June and will continue in Chicago until early August, then use other exotic locations including Mexico City, London and Berlin.

The series will be released on Netflix in 2015.
