Jennifer Lawrence tapped to play Miracle Mop inventor in David O Russell movie

Fans of American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook, listen up. Your favourite partnership is reportedly teaming up once again...

Why mess with a winning formula, eh? That’s certainly David O Russell’s thinking…

Fresh from the critical glow surrounding his latest flick American Hustle, it’s reported that Russell is in talks to reunite with Jennifer Lawrence for a new biopic of American entrepreneur Joy Mangano – creator of the self-wringing Miracle Mop.

While there is yet to be an official announcement, the director is said to be in “early talks to rewrite and direct an untitled Fox 2000 film”, according to Deadline. His partnership with 23-year-old Lawrence has been fruitful of late, with the actress scooping the best actress Oscar last year for the lead role in his film Silver Linings Playbook – a win she’s followed up with a 2014 best supporting actress nod from the Academy for her turn as Rosalyn Rosenfeld in American Hustle.

Inspired by Mangano’s rags-to-riches story, the new film is expected to chart her meteoric rise from a struggling single mum of three to a multi-millionaire and one of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs. Now known as the “Mother of Invention”, Mangano struck a lucrative deal with the Home Shopping Network thanks to her mop innovation and is ranked as one of the 10 Most Creative Women in Business by Fast Company.

Whether Lawrence will be signing on is still up in the air, but the young Oscar-winner is hot property right now with a jam-packed 2014 schedule. In addition to new releases in the X-Men and Hunger Games franchises over the next 12 months, she’s also attached to star in an adaptation of John Steinbeck’s East of Eden and in the Hannah Kent novel Burial Rites.
