Breaking Bad’s Mike joins spin-off Better Call Saul!

Actor Jonathan Banks, who plays the lawyer's fixer in the hit drama, will also appear in the prequel series

He became a key player and a favourite character in the saga of Breaking Bad, so fans of the hit US drama will be pleased to hear that Mike Ehrmantraut is making a comeback – if only in a prequel series.

Jonathan Banks (pictured left), who plays tough former cop Mike, has joined the cast of Better Call Saul!, a spin-off following the shady dealings of Bob Odenkirk’s shyster lawyer Saul Goodman.

Banks will reprise his role as Saul’s private detective and general fixer and, as such, will be a regular in the series, which promises a lighter tone to the brutal and often bleak Breaking Bad.

Better Call Saul! is the brainchild of Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and writer/producer Peter Gould, who penned Saul’s first appearance in the series and is expected to spearhead the new project.

The prequel will have the same Albuquerque, New Mexico, setting as the Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning original, but will take place before Saul crossed paths with Bryan Cranston’s chemistry teacher-turned-drug kingpin Walter White.
